KING COEL’S KITTENS
For 60 years, King Coel’s Kittens, a local charitable fundraising group, has been raising funds to provide tangible items to groups of people with special requirements living in the local community. The group, founded by Bill Tucker, a former county newspaper journalist, started in 1962 to raise funds for the paper’s annual Miss Colchester competition. They invited young representatives from local organizations across the town to form a committee to raise funds to financially support the competition. The group enjoyed their first year of fundraising and decided to continue raising funds for other groups within the local community. The group never gives money to an organization or pays for overheads; they always pay for the purchase of tangible items from which many people within a special group can benefit. Over the years, they have organized several events, including the Christmas tree collection around the streets of Colchester, markets, tiddlywink race, Millennium events in the town, and the annual Fireworks Spectacular in Castle Park, which has lasted for 51 years. Every year, 8000 people pack the park to see this annual event.

King Coel’s Kittens are organising their 55 th Fireworks Spectacular on
Thursday 5 th November, 2026 in Castle Park, Colchester
Tickets will be available from the Mercury Theatre or on line through the
King Coel’s Kittens website kingcoelskittens.co.uk. at the beginning of
September
There will be a selection of food outlets by the Castle Café and the
beacon in the upper park.
Gates open at 5.30pm.
The gates open for entry are Museum St, both ends of the Folley,
Roman Road and the main gates into the park by the war memorial.
Please have your tickets available to scan at the gate.
Ticket holders only on the night.
No alcohol , sparklers or lazer beams will be allowed in the park
Bags may be checked
No animals are allowed unless an assistance dog.
Entertainment will be provided from 5.30pm followed by the Guy Parade
from the Band Stand at 7pm.
The Fireworks display will commence at 7.30pm
All funds raised will enable King Coel’s Kittens to purchase tangible
items for groups of people living within the local community who require
additional equipment.
This year. King Coel’s Kittens have supported Levelbest, Kingsland
Church, Scout Groups, Wivenhoe Allotment Group, Culver Square
telephone box for books, Stepping Stones and Emmaus

No concessions
As this is a charity event we do not offer concessionary tickets to
individuals or groups. All money raised from the event goes back into
the local community.
There is not a nominated area for people with a disability but the best
place to be positioned is along the path by the bandstand. If you do not
wish to queue too long then Roman Road entrance has less footfall
